The arts are a central component of life at Millbrook—a reality clearly reflected in several annual exhibits at the
Warner Gallery. Art Instructor and Gallery Director Kiernan Pazdar collects pieces from professional artists around the world, carefully curating shows that help Millbrook’s young artists expand their creative minds. Fall exhibit
Graphic Language, which opened on Thursday evening, is a particularly germane example.
Defined by bold colors, mesmerizing patterns, and intricate textures, Graphic Language entices viewers to return again and again to discover new meaning with each visit. “The title is meant to be cheeky, a bit like the artists in the show, who allow themselves to use bright colors, experiment with materials, and delight in unexpected juxtapositions and forms,” explains Pazdar. “Their vivid interpretations of the world serve as a reminder of the infinite possibilities that exist in color, shape, line, form, texture, and space. Each artist works with found shapes and symbols to build systems of communication beyond verbal language.”
The artists represented in the show—Nick Fagan, Orli Swergold, Sofia Clausse, Kenneth Millington, Amanda Hunter, and Mary Connell—employ an eclectic assortment of materials in their work. From paper pulp on wood and crochet blankets to the more traditional acrylic, ink, and watercolor on paper, they communicate endless possibilities to the Millbrook students who look their way for inspiration.
Graphic Language is open to the public until
December 14. So, make your way to the
Holbrook Arts Center soon to find out what this vibrant collection of artwork has to say to you.
