Visiting Musicians Inspire

Millbrook student musicians were treated to performances and instruction from visiting musicians Chaeyoung Park and Oliver Neubauer. In a workshop setting with the Groove, pianist Chaeyoung coached two student pianists, Angelina Huang and Selina Hung on solo piano repertoire while Oliver coached fellow violinist Emmett Geller on repertoire he is learning for the ensemble. The rest of the Groove observed, undoubtedly gaining insight and broadening their understanding of the music.

During studio music, the duo played selections from their repertoire and engaged with students, who asked some excellent and difficult questions about being a professional musician, choosing classical music, practice regimens, and motivation. The duo, for their part, gave thoughtful and inspiring answers, emphasizing the value of hard work and consistent practice, and overcoming failure and setbacks. Chaeyoung and Oliver emphasized the importance of finding the internal motivation to persist despite obstacles, important lessons for Millbrook students.

The award-winning duo visited campus ahead of their performance at the Stissing Center, where they opened the 2024 chamber music season. Millbrook’s proximity to many cultural institutions creates many ways for students to connect with the arts. Student musicians were granted the opportunity to receive instruction from amazing professional musicians not much older than themselves, to hear top-notch chamber music in an intimate setting, and to be inspired.
