Boys Varsity Lacrosse Ends Season with Win Over Williston
Well, it wasn't exactly the way everyone had seen the season ending, but at least we got the win. The boys Varsity Lacrosse team played their last regular season game on Wednesday at home, against Williston. Unfortunately, especially for our seniors, the game was unable to be finished due to the weather. With a couple of minutes left in the first half, and huge, dark cloud covered the field. At half time, both thunder and lightning started and both teams were forced to go inside and wait it out. The rule is that you have to wait at least 30 minutes until teams are able to return to the field. That clock resets every time a piece of lightning strikes. Luckily for us, the score at halftime was 5-3, and according to NCAA rules, only one half of a game is required to be played in order for the game to count in the standings. So, we did get the win, but the seniors were very upset that it had to end that way. The practices leading up to game, as well as the first half, was some of the best lacrosse that had been played all year, and the coaches were very happy to see that improvement.
The seniors this year included Nick Farrell (D), Chris Bennett (G), Beau Parent (M), Lynn Harrington (M), Sam Baily (A), Jake Shmidlapp (A), Kirk Baldo (M), and Anthony Yip (M) (Unfortunately, Anthony was required to with withdraw from school for undisclosed reasons).
All of them were upset by the end of the season, but were grateful that they all got the chance to be coached by first year head coach Dave Mullen. Both Dave and Gordan MacKenzie enjoyed coaching this team very much, although the win/loss category wasn't where it needed to be. Both of them, as well as all the underclassman are looking forward to a great season next year.
Congratulations to the class of 2008, and good luck next year!
