Alumnus Edward Opoku '15 is one of just 31 players nationwide who was recently named to the elite United Soccer Coaches MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.

JonJon Conahan '18 was recently selected to the USA Today All-USA New York State Baseball Team.

 

About two and a half months ago, in my psychology class, we were doing a debate and it was my job to deliver the closing arguments. I have pretty bad stage fright so, as I’m giving my speech, I got so nervous that I literally forgot how to speak. I lost the words mid-sentence and sat in silence for about forty seconds until my time ran out. So it turns out that the silent treatment is not the best strategy to win a debate. It was a bold move that didn’t quite pay off. Again, I get very nervous in front of large amounts of people. Also, I should note that this was just in a class of about 16 students and 1 teacher and by my rough estimations, there are at least twice as many people here today. For the most part, I’m a pretty quiet guy. For my aunt and uncle who are here today, this might be the most they’ve ever heard me speak. And I think that the problem on that day, the debate day, is that I didn’t have much to say. But when I woke up today, something was different. Today is the last I day I’ll ever get to wake up as a student of Millbrook School. And after being chosen by my classmates to represent them on this day, I feel compelled to speak. I feel an urge and an obligation to finally raise my voice as we celebrate what we’ve done, who we are, and where we’ll go. So before I begin I’d like to say thank you to the people in my life who paid for my education and to the institution that provided it, because it’s been incredible. And lastly, I’d like to thank my classmates. I’m going to do my best to deliver a fitting conclusion to a four-year experience that has made me so incredibly proud to be a member of the class of 2017.

 

Jack Bloom '20 is our Zooie of the Week for his care of Betty the bobcat. Not only has he done an excellent job looking after Betty, but he has also gone above and beyond his responsibilities by volunteering to substitute for other Zooies. He is an exemplary team player, and communicates very well with the zoo staff. And for his spring sport, Jack is on our Zoo Squad, spending even more time working at the zoo.

Alumna Devin Hardy '08 was recently featured in the The New York Times for her work with Toast Ale USA, a company tackling the global issue of food waste through re-purposing bread scraps into craft ales.

Kaitlyn Pike ‘18 and Charlotte Golden ’20 are our Zooies of the Week for their exceptional work together in the Red Panda exhibit. They exemplify teamwork, as they communicate well and work together to keep the exhibit clean.

Ellie Stewart ’19 and Sarah Hoover ’20 are our Zooies of the Week for their excellent teamwork in caring for the raven and porcupine. Together they maintain the enclosure and meet the needs of these very different animals with consistent attention to detail and positive attitudes.

Zihan Chen ‘18 is our Zooie of the Week for his great work caring for the animals in the Jono and Jane Meigs Education Center, which include leopard geckos, an anole, children’s python, ball python, crested gecko, and sugar gliders. His attention to detail and continuous effort to improve has made him a valuable member of our Zooie team.

Millbrook’s boys and girls varsity squash teams both competed in New England Tournaments this past weekend.

Seventeen Millbrook photography students were recently honored at the Regional Scholastic Art Competition.

Students studying Honors Ceramics and Honors Studio recently collaborated to present a new exhibit in the Warner Gallery, Within Nature. The exhibit details the students’ simultaneous but different explorations of the relationship between art and its environment.

Our Mustangs continue to make us proud at the collegiate level. Will Rayman '15 has already set records and earned multiple honors since the start of his first basketball season with the Division I Colgate Raiders.

Millbrook welcomed world champion squash players Nick Matthew (currently ranked No. 4) and Ryan Cuskelly (currently ranked No. 19) to campus on January 20.

Gabriella Kirikian ’20, Eliza Lindsay ’20, and Charlotte Meigs ’19 are our Zooies of the Week! They are being recognized for their excellent teamwork in caring for our four wallabies and two emus in our Australia Exhibit.
