On a sun soaked afternoon, the Millbrook boy’s lacrosse team battled the Canterbury Saints to a 6-3 victory. It was a defensive clinic on both sides of the ball as the two goalies stopped 34 shots combined. Chris Bennett 08’ stopped 12 shots while visiting Goalie Chris Heaton stopped 22 mustang shots. In the first quarter, the Mustangs would score the first goal of the game with a minute and thirty seconds to play. Sixth Former Forrest Mas would find the back of the net to put the Mustangs up by one on an unsettled situation. The second quarter would find the Blue and Gray cashing in on three goals for their most productive quarter of the game. Mackey Haller tickled the twine to put Millbrook up by two, but it would be the Saints who would find the net next at the 6:22 mark to pull Canterbury within one. Millbrook would collect the next goal on a man advantage when Mackey Haller 07’ would find fellow classmate Taylor Vitt 07’ for a pretty time and room shot to put the Mustangs up by two. Vitt would again score with 28 seconds left in the half off a feed from Captain Nick Weaver 07’ to take the Mustangs into the half with a 4-1 lead.
The second half belonged to the Millbrook Defense. The tenacious Defense and smart play by Nick Farrell 08’, Ryan Fanning 07’, Will Gray 07’, Zack Fuller 09’ and Dan Mascoveta 07’ gave the Saint offense fits the rest of the game. Canterbury would score the lone goal of the third quarter to bring the contest within one, but it was the impressive play of the Millbrook Defense and swarming riding by the attack that would steal the show.
With a one goal lead going into the fourth quarter, the Mustangs controlled the ball and collected two more goals to seal the victory on goals by Forrest Mas 07’ assisted by Captain Mackey Haller 07’ and Nick Weaver 07’ who scored unassisted. It was a great team effort all around by Millbrook against a very determined Canterbury squad. Millbrook will take to the road next Wednesday when they tilt with the Brunswick Bruins in Greenwich, Connecticut for a 3:15 start. Thank you to all of the students, parents and fans who came out to support the team. A special thank you to Mike and Susan Weaver, parents of senior captain Nick Weaver for a great tailgate.
