Lacrosse Team Off and Running in Orlando

During the last week of spring break, forty boys and four coaches traveled to Orlando, Florida for some pre-season play. The weather and facilities at the Wide World of Sports contributed to making the week an excellent experience for everyone involved as the team practiced and played five scrimmages against strong competition.

The scrimmages began on the second night as the Mustangs had a tilt with cross-border rival Kent School. It was a very evenly matched contest and an excellent start to the week. The third day of the trip gave us the opportunity to play Shady Side Academy of Pittsburgh, PA. A very well coached an athletic team, Shady Side tested us and gave us a better look into the toughness of our team. Our boys raised their level of play in this scrimmage and set the tone for the remainder of the week. On Thursday we played two scrimmages against Phillips Andover and Nobles, both strong programs from the Boston area. The team continued to show promise with excellent play in the goal by V form goalies Luke Stuckey and Chris Bennett. On the final day of our trip, we scrimmaged another New England division II team in Kingswood-Low Hayward Thomas of Stanford, Connecticut. The team finished the week strong with an excellent performance.

On the final evening of the trip, players, coaches and families gathered at Disney’s Epcot Center for a pre-season banquet and private showing of the daily fireworks and light show. Players had the opportunity to elect captains for the season and the coaches handed out several awards to players who excelled on and off the field throughout the week. It was a great week of lacrosse and team-bonding.

The boys will travel to Choate on Sunday April 1 to complete their pre-season preparation with a full afternoon of scrimmages with several New England Prep school teams. Scrimmages will begin at 1:00PM.
