Mustangs of the Week

In honor of those student athletes who go above and beyond in spirit, determination, sportsmanship and skill development, coaches nominate a Mustang of the Week. Here, you can read about our current athletes and their contributions to their team and to their school.

WINTER 2025-2026

WEEK OF December 1

Kate Rubinstein

Kate was strong in net last week for the girls varsity hockey team, helping the Mustangs pick up two very important victories. In the team’s games against Portledge and St. George’s, Kate made some game-changing saves to help preserve the wins. Her calm and confident demeanor in net has been a real strength for the team so far.

Sam Gero

Sam has been one of the offensive catalysts for the boys varsity hockey team, averaging over a point per game in the team’s first four games. On Saturday night, in the team’s 3-2 win over Lawrenceville, Sam picked up a goal and an assist, but more importantly, he set the tone for the Mustangs as he was consistently around the puck and creating scoring opportunities all night for his teammates.

FALL 2025

WEEK OF November 3

Hailey Vigna

Hailey was unstoppable in the net these last two weeks. While the scores were not the outcome the team had hoped for, Hailey played her best games of the season over the last four games. With the help of a strong defensive unit in front of her, Hailey consistently helped keep the games tight. Most importantly, her positivity in the net kept the team moving forward throughout the fall.

Vincent He

Vincent was a steady and consistent runner all season. Quiet and engaged, he generally led by example and never complained. In every meet this season, he scored for the team, meaning that he always placed in the top 5 of Millbrook runners. At the New England Invitational this past weekend, he posted a solid 5k time of 19:38, and his fourth place on the Millbrook ladder was pivotal in the team’s victory over Pomfret.

WEEK OF October 27

Maura Terry

This fall, Maura has been the anchor for the girls varsity soccer team and the glue to the team’s defense. While playing as a defender, she has also been a catalyst for the team, helping transition the ball from defense to offense, which has also included taking the team’s set pieces. This past Saturday, Maura helped the girls pick up a hard-fought 3-1win against Holy Child on senior day.

Paul LaPage

This past week Paul helped the boys varsity soccer team pick up two big home victories over Brunswick and St. Luke’s, only allowing a combined one goal against. As the team’s starting goalie, he has been a rock all fall, picking up six shutouts. Throughout the season, Paul has made countless incredible saves that have shifted momentum toward the Mustangs.

WEEK OF October 20

Joiee Downs

This past Saturday, Joiee won the race against Berkshire and Frederick Gunn, beating a runner from Frederick Gunn who had previously bested her twice this season. Joiee has pushed herself in every practice this fall and has been a real spark for the team. She has been a fearless competitor in every race, with Saturday being no exception.

Zane Williams

Zane helped the Mustangs pick up an impressive win this weekend as they swept Berkshire, Salisbury, and Gunn. The scores were very close, and Zane’s performance was critical in the win. All fall, Zane has been a very consistent runner, and his numerous top 10 finishes have really bolstered the team. Each day, Zane has brought a positive attitude to the course and has shown consistent improvement.

WEEK OF October 13

Merritt Tessier

Merritt has taken her game to the next level this year, and while the team has had its share of injuries, she has provided the offensive punch the team has desperately needed. Whether serving crosses into the box for teammates to run onto or netting goals herself (she had a hat trick under the lights during Fall Family Weekend against Frederick Gunn School), Merritt has helped give her team a chance to win.

Ross Ezrow

After missing a month due to injury, Ross returned to the lineup this past week. His impact was felt immediately, as he helped the team pick up two big road wins against class A opponents Kent and Salisbury. Against Kent last Wednesday, he headed in the decisive goal in a 2-1 win, and against Salisbury he picked up two important assists in a 3-0 win.

WEEK OF September 29

Georgia Simonds

Georgia was a force for the field hockey team this past Wednesday at Canterbury. She played a key role both as center forward and center mid, helping transition the ball up the field, leading to the Mustangs enormous 2-1 victory. Georgia also sustained an injury in the game but went back in and continued to play with fearless intensity.

Ollie Fauver

Ollie placed third in the boys cross-country race on Saturday with a time of 20:17. Overall, he ran extremely well and rebounded after a slower start to his season. More than anything, Ollie has been improving steadily, working extremely hard in practice and being a selfless teammate. Ollie has been the glue on the cross-country team all fall.

WEEK OF September 22

Anna Colman

Anna was a dominant presence last week on the volleyball team. In the team’s two games, Anna stepped up with 15 assists and 20 kills. Not only has Anna’s play been impressive on the court, but she has also helped to keep spirits high off the court! All fall, she has been a positive presence, leading like a true captain.

Will Vollmer

Will led the Mustangs to an impressive win this past Saturday against rival Frederick Gunn. The entire boys team ran extremely well, but Will earned the fastest time in the race, finishing in 20:03. As a third former, Will has quickly become a lead runner on the boys team and has been a real catalyst so far this fall.

WEEK OF September 15

Andy Sassatelli

This past Saturday, in a field of 100 runners, Andy won the D2 girls race at the Canterbury Invitational. She took a commanding lead in the first mile, and never looked back, finishing with an impressive time of 18:57, which was nearly 1 & 1/2 faster than the next runner.

Artie Ambuhl

Overall, Artie’s been a great addition to the BV soccer team this fall. In just three New England games he’s picked up 5 goals and chipped in an assist helping the team get off to a strong 2-1 start on the season.
