Mustangs Beat Canterbury, 7-6, in Walk-Off Thriller

The Millbrook Varsity Softball team beat Canterbury, 7-6, with a walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh with two strikes and two outs. It was a testament to the Mustangs' grit and resilience and a thrilling way to finish Millbrook's first home game of the season. The Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first before the Mustangs got three back in the second, with RBI from Riley Croghan '18, Maya Holmes '17, and Helene Apollon '19. Canterbury added another in the fifth and two more in the sixth, while Millbrook closed the gap to 4-6 in the bottom of the sixth when Devyn Farrell '20 walked and then eventually came around to score on an error. It was then high drama in the seventh, as Croghan blanked the Saints in the top of the frame and then led off the bottom with a double. Kelly Phan '17 followed up with a single, and then Jessie Foote '18 knocked in Croghan with another single. Farrell was hit by a pitch, and then Holmes brought in Phan and moved Foote and Farrell to second and third on a hard grounder. With Apollon up at bat with two outs and two strikes, Foote drew a throw from the catcher that got away from the third baseman and came in to score the game-winner. Croghan earned the complete-game win with nine strikeouts and no walks. The Mustangs will host Cheshire on Wednesday.
