Girls varsity squash traveled to Philadelphia over the weekend to play in the 2026 U.S. High School Team Championships. Although they entered the tournament with a 2-10 record on the season, the Mustangs dug deep and made it all the way to the finals in the Vth division, coming up just short of the championship in a 5-2 loss to Potomac.

The sixth seed in a field of 16, Millbrook took care of business against lower-seeded opponents in their first three matches. After dispatching No. 11 Shady Side Academy 4-3 in the first round, the Mustangs knocked off No. 14 Newton Country Day School 6-1 and then topped No. 10 Kingswood Oxford School 4-3.

In the finals, the girls faced a tough challenge against the top-ranked team in their division. They picked up wins from No. 5 Abby Swon and No. 7 Zoe Bloxam—who received Mustang of the Week honors for her 4-0 tournament performance. Also, No. 4 Sophie Banta put up a tough fight, going 2-3 in a 36-minute match. The rest of the squad delivered valiant efforts but were unable to win any sets against their higher-ranked opponents.

“We played like a team, which can be tough when matches come down to individual wins and losses,” said Girls Varsity Squash Head Coach Will Dore.  “But the team did such a great job supporting each other, and I think that made a huge difference in exceeding our expectations and getting to the finals. Everyone contributed to our success, and it was a lot of fun to watch.”
