VIth Formers Fly Their Flag
Millbrook’s Class of 2027 paused for a moment on Thursday to mark the start of their final year of high school with the annual flag-raising ceremony.
The entire graduating class crowded around the flagpole in Pulling Quad, listening intently as Head of School Jonathan Downs ’98 delivered his traditional reading of Robert Frost’s poem “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.” They then watched as their prefects lowered the Class of 2026 flag and carefully replaced it with their own. A solemn silence was then broken by applause, as the flag was raised into place, signifying the beginning of the end of the VIth formers’ Millbrook student experience.
Faculty from the College Counseling Office also attended the ceremony, fittingly standing alongside the seniors they will guide through the rigorous college application process in the year ahead. But for now, we encourage our amazing seniors to make this the first of many moments of reflection this year. And while their flag will eventually be replaced, their places in this community will remain forever as they transition from students to alumni this coming May.
