Students Launch International Thespian Troupe

Led by Blake Frost ’26, the Theater Department launched the Millbrook chapter of the International Thespian Society this spring. Bringing international recognition to the department, the society includes over 5,000 troupes and more than 2.5 million students worldwide. Membership gives students access to International Thespian events that help them hone their craft and meet other students who love theater.

The Millbrook troupe's first event was the New York chapter of the International Thespian Festival. Blake and Theater Director Elaine were joined by Marvelous Aderibigbe ’26, Andrew Stambaugh ’26, Angelina Edwards ’26, Josiah Guiles ’26, and Ellie Myers ’26 at the event, which was held at Hofstra University in early May. During the two-day festival, the students immersed themselves in the world of theater with peers and educators from all over New York.

Events included writing and acting workshops, and performances evaluated by industry professionals. For instance, Marvelous attended a workshop in which she and a group of other writers essentially locked themselves in a room and created a one-act play in one day, performing it for the entire festival the next day. Students also competed for recognition at the Thespys, the festival’s award show. “Students had the chance to perform or share pieces in front of judges,” explained Andrew. “It was a valuable opportunity to grow as artists and practice performing under pressure.”

Overall, the Millbrook troupe had an amazing time, learning from their peers and other teachers, and networking with both accomplished and aspiring thespians. “It was an exciting experience to be surrounded by so many students who share a passion for the arts,” commented Blake. “We left the festival inspired and excited to bring what we learned back to our own school theater program. We are even thinking about hosting a one-act festival at Millbrook School next year.”

Millbrook is filled with performing arts opportunities. The Fall Play and Winter Musical are true highlights of each school year, and regular visits from legendary actors and playwrights inspire students to chase their theater dreams.
