Winter Warmer Brings Alums & Current Families Together
Michelle Blayney
On Saturday, February 21, alumni and current families gathered on campus for a spirited, joy-filled Winter Warmer celebration that spanned from a morning family skate to the afternoon’s home athletic contests.
The day began on the ice, where families laced up skates and enjoyed open time together before cheering on a lively alumni hockey game. In a high-scoring 9–6 matchup, several current JV players joined the fun, with standout goaltending from Madison Carpenter '27 and Jesse Maltby '29, and refereeing by Miles Chandor '29. Their efforts added to the energy of a quick and spirited game.
It was truly a family affair. Mr. Downs shared the ice with son Atticus. The Pecchia family was out in full force, including Dave '97 and Juliana with daughters Harper '29 and Paisley '27, along with brother Brian '03. Parent Tom Buttacavoli played a strong game alongside daughter Sarah '26, and plenty of other family members supported on the bench and in the cheering section. Millbrook faculty members Gordie MacKenzie '79, Dave Whiting, and Brit Foster also played. When the game ended, Christopher West '72 was presented with the game's MVP award for his outstanding teamwork and dedication to the Alumni Game tradition.
Off the ice, the chili contest was tasty! Congratulations to Dave Pecchia, who took top honors against seven other entries that were all distinct and also delicious. Throughout the day, guests enjoyed warm food, bonfires, and plenty of s’mores. All day long, it was festive inside and just outside the athletic center.
The celebration continued as fans filled the stands to support two varsity teams in their home games. Girls hockey took on Lawrenceville at home and played a great game despite a close loss at the end. The afternoon ended on a high note in Wray Gymnasium, where the boys basketball team delivered a decisive win over Marianapolis Prep before a packed and very enthusiastic crowd.
From the rink to the court, Winter Warmer was a phenomenal day, and we appreciate everyone who joined us!
What a fun Saturday! Thank you, Nick, and well done, Millbrook! I look forward to this event growing and getting back on the ice with even more alums in the future!
