Leo Scores and the Lion Roars
Leo Hou scores his first goal of the season against a strong and deep Hotchkiss squad.
Getting walloped by a deep and talented Hotchkiss team, the mustangs had a chance to show their character when, late in the second half, striker Leo Hou dribbled through several players and found the back of the net. The players on the field and the guys on the bench unanimously erupted in what can only be described as a roar. That roar was followed by faster and faster chants of "Leo Hou! Leo Hou! Leo Hou!" It's clear to the coaches that these players care about each other, believe in their future as much as their present, and find joy in their teammates' successes.
Captain Michael Philipp put together two excellent back-to-back scoring chances, delivering a beautiful pass across the six-yard line and then later just barely missing the net after an impressive breakaway run. Peter Wilkie, Abbott Cooper, Marco Wu, and Ray Matano showed good chemistry in the backfield, and our younger guys demonstrated guts, seemingly unfazed by the skill of the players they were tasked with guarding. The coaches also want to give a shoutout to Charley Li, who showed the team what it looks like to communicate on the field, and to Jason Zhang, who always gives everything he's got.
We're grateful to the Hotchkiss team for playing with class, and want to applaud their captain for his kindness and respectfulness. The Hotchkiss team is lucky to have a captain as solid as the two we've got.
