The Millbrook Mustangs traveled to Suffield, Connecticut, on Wednesday to take on the Concord Academy Chameleons in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class C Tournament quarterfinals. The boys dominated in a 3-0 victory, punching their ticket to the semifinals.
From the start, the No. 4-seeded Mustangs exhibited superior speed and technical skill, moving the ball with ease but failing to find the back of the net in a scoreless first half. Chances soon turned to goals in the second half, though, starting with a beautiful long shot from Tahirou Traore ’29 that grazed the opposing keeper’s fingertips and landed in goal just past the 40-minute mark. A few minutes later, Traore again scored, this time on a header off an Arthur Ambuhl ’27 shot that ricocheted off the crossbar. Finally, with 6:17 left in the game, Oliver Hougland ’26 added the dagger goal.
Millbrook’s next challenge is a tough one. They’ll hit the road to face Class C No. 1 Greens Farms Academy on their home turf in the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 15. The Dragons easily handled Harvey School on Wednesday, winning 5-0, and when they met the Mustangs in the regular season, they scored a 2-0 victory. However, Millbrook was without four of its starting 11 that day due to injury. Back at full strength, the Mustangs are raring to go and upset-minded.
