News12 to Feature Trevor-Lovejoy Zoo
As the only AZA-accredited zoo on a high school campus in the U.S., the Trevor-Lovejoy Zoo is regularly highlighted on TV broadcasts, both local and national. On Thursday, News12 stopped in to do a “Road Trip: Close to Home” feature on the zoo.
It was a perfect spring day for news coverage. The zoo was crowded with elementary school students on class trips, and many of the 170+ indigenous and exotic animals were out enjoying the sun. Scooter the otter frolicked in the waterfall, and the endangered American Red Wolves even howled their welcome to the news channel.
The broadcast, which will likely air next week, will also feature interviews with Trevor-Lovejoy Zoo Director Dr. Alan Tousignant, Millbrook students, and visitors. News12 did a similar feature on the zoo back in 2022, which can be viewed here.
The zoo has changed a lot since then, changing its name to honor late Millbrook alum Dr. Thomas Lovejoy '59 and welcoming new animals, including binturongs and a Canada lynx. Additionally, the zoo is in the early stages of a major expansion plan. A new holding barn is already complete, with an animal wellness facility and expanded exhibits to follow. All of the planned changes will help the zoo better accomplish its mission of promoting environmental conservation to visitors and providing Millbrook students with unparalleled service opportunities.
