Last Friday, the Alumni & Development Office hosted a gingerbread house building competition for students. Teams of builders representing each dorm on campus convened at the student center in the Barn to put their gingerbread construction skills to the test while enjoying festive snacks and hot chocolate.
With the classic Christmas movie Elf playing in the background, students got busy crafting edible residences decorated with gobs of frosting and mounds of colorful candies. Unfortunately, the frosting failed to hold, and most of the houses collapsed before the competition judges could determine a winner. But while the houses lay in tasty ruins, the builders’ holiday spirits remained fully intact.
“Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Barn on Friday night for some spirited gingerbread building,” commented Director of Alumni Engagement Nicolas Ugarte, who hosted the event. “Special appreciation goes to the builders who gave it their all in crafting some very creative and great-looking gingerbread houses. Despite the crumbles, the night was full of laughter, positive energy, and winter cheer. Your enthusiasm and the joy we shared during the process more than make up for a few collapsed walls.”
Despite the frosting flub, Ugarte hinted that the event will return next year—along with hot glue guns to ensure the houses hold up!
