Mustangs Breaking Records & Winning Championships

The Mustangs wrapped up spring sports season with some major accomplishments. From the lacrosse pitch to the baseball diamond and track, Millbrook athletes put in the work and brought home the hardware.

GV Lacrosse Wins Championship

The girls varsity lacrosse squad played hard all spring, taking their lumps and developing team chemistry throughout a tough year. So, when the pressure was on in the New England Tournament, they were ready to put the regular season behind them and win the games that mattered most.

When the tournament ended, the Mustangs stood atop the New England Preparatory School Girls Lacrosse Association (NEPSGLA). A lopsided 11-3 win over Suffield Academy made them the 2026 Class C champions!

“We had three excellent wins against Frederick Gunn, Worcester Academy, and Suffield, who we had lost to earlier in the season,” GV Lacrosse Head Coach Caitlin Sorriento said. “The tournament was a culmination of the work that the girls put in over the course of the season and demonstrated their growth in both the mental and physical parts of the game.  Highlights included play in net by Madison Carpenter and offensive contributions by Sophia Sorriento (11 goals and 5 assists) that helped secure a 33-10 goal edge for Millbrook on the day and propelled the team to their championship victory.”

Justin Munoz Breaks Hit Record

A Virginia Tech commit and perhaps the greatest baseball player ever to put on the Millbrook uniform, Justin Munoz ’26 finished his high school career with flair. After breaking Head of School Jon Downs ’98’s career home run record earlier in the season, Justin took aim at the Millbrook single-season hit mark—also held by Mr. Downs.

In his final at-bat of the year, the VIth former stepped up to the plate and crushed a long home run, notching his 26th hit of the season to break Mr. Downs’ record. Fully aware of the gravity of his accomplishment, Justin couldn’t help but tear up as he rounded the bases to be greeted by his equally emotional teammates and coaches.

Andrea Sassatelli Breaks 800m Record

Track & field headed to Marianapolis Preparatory School on Saturday for the New Englands Championship. They returned with several medals, including Andrea Sassatelli’s record-breaking first-place finish in the 800-meter event:

  • Andrea Sassatelli ’28 — 1st place in the 800m (2:13.85)
  • Jack Molinaro ’27 — 3rd place in the triple jump (42’ 5”)
  • Ollie Fauver ’28 — 5th place in the 800m (2:06.04)
  • Jack Molinaro, Keith Kumahlor ’28, Ajak Dau ’26 & Marcus Paul ’27 — 6th place in the 4 x 100m relay (45.72)

At this point, Andrea is competing against herself, as her 800m performance broke the meet record she set last year. Her overall performance during the spring earned her a spot in the 800m race at the upcoming New Balance National Championships.

Clearly, the Mustangs have much to be proud of this spring. Twenty of them will be going on to play in NCAA next year, and the community is already looking forward to watching returning students dominate the NEPSAC next school year!
