On Saturday, IIIrd form softball hurler Meghan Abbate ’29 pitched her way into the Millbrook history books. In a home game against Miss Hall’s, she threw the first Millbrook softball no-hitter since 2022, leading the Mustangs to a blowout win.
Meghan was electric on the mound, striking out eight and allowing just two baserunners (one walk, one error) over four innings of work. She also scored two runs and fielded her position flawlessly. The performance is even more impressive considering the fact that Meghan was working with a first-time catcher in Jaicee Downs ’26.
The Mustangs went off at the plate, stringing together walks and timely hits to mercy-rule their opponent 15-0. Meghan credits her confidence in the offense for putting her in the right frame of mind to dominate on the mound.
“As a team we felt really confident going into the game on Saturday, and it was nice to get a win. I felt good on the mound, knowing my team had my back and that we would be able to produce a lot of runs, which allowed me to be loose and pitch my game.”
Varsity Softball Head Coach Lindsay Peterson had high praise for her star pitcher following the game. “Meghan had great command from the mound on Saturday—she had good movement to her pitches and hit her spots. It is exciting that her first win at Millbrook was also a no-hitter. She’s an incredibly hard worker who brings a great attitude and is a supportive team player.”
With Meghan on the mound potentially for the next three years, the softball team has a lot more winning ahead. They’ll aim to build on Saturday’s success they welcome Kent to campus on Wednesday.
