Madison Carpenter Wins Scholastic Arts Silver Medal

Millbrook artists cleaned up at the regional Scholastic Art Awards earlier this year, winning a combined 54 Gold and Silver Keys. The Gold Key winners went on to the national stage of the competition, where Madison Carpenter ’27 won a Silver Medal for her printmaking piece “Fall’s Death in Winter’s Breath.”

This year the Scholastic Art Awards received 336,000 submissions, and less than one percent of those submissions received national honors. In other words, this is a huge deal. Madison understands the gravity of her achievement and is excited to build on her success:

“I'm really proud of this award, and I can't wait to expand my work with printmaking,” Madison said. She also shared about the inspiration for her submission. “‘Fall’s Death in Winter’s Breath’ was inspired by a personal belief I have, which is that sometimes in order to seek new opportunities and find the beauties in life you must leave things you cared about behind and move forward.”

Art Department Chair Joe Raciti presented Madison with her medal at Assembly on Friday in the theater, which was extra crowded for Revisit Day. Her incredible accomplishment showed prospective families that Millbrook is the place to be for aspiring young artists!
