Athletes thrive at Millbrook, with access to 13 sports across three seasons, dedicated and skilled coaches, and high-level competition against other top northeastern boarding schools. All that adds up to success, as many of our student-athletes go on to play in college and at the professional level, and on Thursday, two more Mustangs committed to compete at the NCAA Division I level next year.

Justin Munoz Matrille ’26 committed to play for the Virginia Tech Hokies baseball squad. Winner of the 2024 boys varsity baseball MVP and Hustle awards, Justin joins a Hokies team that went 31-25 last season and made it to the second round of the ACC championship. He’ll play conference games against powerhouses like Clemson, Duke, UNC, Virginia, and Georgia Tech.

Millbrook Varsity Baseball Head Coach Keith Del Valle had this to say about Justin's time at Millbrook:

"There are players who produce, and then there are players who define a program. Justin Munoz has done both. A four year varsity starter and two year captain, Justin has been the steady heartbeat of our team. As a Prefect, he holds one of the highest leadership roles on campus, and he carries that responsibility with maturity, humility, and purpose. His commitment to Virginia Tech speaks to his talent, but what truly separates Justin is who he is every single day at Millbrook. He has played wherever we have needed him. Pitcher. Catcher. Infield. Outfield, always at a high level, and never once asking for recognition. He competes hard, prepares the right way, and plays the game with passion and pride.

"What stands out most is his character. Justin has no ego. He is the first to grab a younger player and walk him through mechanics. He stays after practice to help with drills. He is the teammate others turn to when adversity hits because they know he will listen and bring a positive mindset to the conversation. He makes people around him better, not just with his performance, but with his presence. Justin is not bigger than the team. He understands that leadership is about service.

"He loves Millbrook deeply and that pride shows in how he represents our school and our program. He has set the standard for what leadership should look like here, and that standard will be felt long after he graduates.
He will be missed on the field, in the locker room, and across campus. Players like Justin do not just leave stats behind. They leave a legacy."

Tyler Tatelman ’26 will head to Fairfield, Connecticut, to join the Sacred Heart University Pioneers men’s lacrosse team. SHU holds back-to-back MAAC conference regular-season titles, and they won the MAAC Tournament in 2024.

"Tyler is an exceptional person on and off the field," said TJ Spahn, Millbrook's boys varsity lacrosse head coach. "Off the field, he is a leader by example who stays on top of his schoolwork and uses any extra free time to improve his lacrosse game. On the field, he is a dynamic defenseman who uses footwork and positioning to beat his opponents. He has strong stick skills as well, which will help us push the ball in transition this year."

Huge congratulations to Justin and Tyler! We’re excited to watch you finish up your careers here in the spring before you head off to make your mark at the next level.
