100 Season K for Abbate and Great Millbrook Hitting in Win over Canterbury

L Peterson
The Mustangs travelled to Canterbury on a cloudy Wednesday for our final game of the season.

Millbrook jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Meghan Abbate ‘29 got things started with a hit and was scored by Joiee Downs ‘29 RBI triple. Great baserunning from Abbate forced a throw that allowed her to score.

The Millbrook defense and pitching was strong throughout, with 3 1-2-3 innings and 4 4-batter innings.

In the bottom of the 1st, Abbate threw her 100th strikeout of the season!

In the third inning, Millbrook made a great defensive play to get the lead runner out on a 1st and 3rd pickle situation. Joiee Downs handled the play perfectly - with a good back and forth series of throws with Kate Rubinstein ‘27 between second and third before firing the ball home for Jaicee Downs ‘26 to get the tag out of the runner coming home from third.

The fourth inning included a great line drive catch from Sherry Yang ‘29 in right field.

Offensively, Millbrook built on their lead in the top of the 4th inning, with back to back bombs from Abbate (triple) and Joiee Downs with the RBI- in-the-park-home run!

In the fifth inning, Jaicee Downs got in on the fun with a triple of her own; she was then scored on an Abbate double.

Offensive Stats:
Meghan Abbate ‘29: 3-4 (double and triple)
Kate Rubinstein ‘27: 2-3
Joiee Downs ‘29: 2-3 (triple and home run)

A big congratulations to Abbate for reaching 100 strikeouts in her freshman season (107!).

Another huge appreciation and shout outs to our two seniors - Ellie Myers and Jaicee Downs.
