Close Match with Ethel Walker

It felt like a summer afternoon when the Mustangs took to the courts with Ethel Walker on Wednesday. For the doubles teams that played outside, the sun and the heat were a factor, but the girls dealt with the elements beautifully. Jen Hughes and Nicole Quintanilla de Toit were a highlight on the doubles court. Their opponents kept beating them with high, deep lob shots. Jen and Nicole found themselves down a game and realized that with a few simple adjustments they would be able to fight back. They made the in-game adjustments and came back to win the set. We were proud to see them look at their match with such a strategic eye! Another highlight was Ilayda Koenigsberger's singles match. After going down several games to her opponent, Ilyada fought back to tie up the match. The girls played all the way to a 7-point tiebreak, where Ethel Walker took the win. However, Ilayda played one of the smartest, hardest-fought matches of the season. We are very proud of her efforts!
