Justin Munoz Breaks Baseball Records
Aaron Case
A Virginia Tech commit and perhaps the greatest baseball player ever to put on the Millbrook uniform, Justin Munoz ’26 finished his high school career with flair.
On April 18, he swung his way into the Millbrook record books, crushing his 10th career long ball to break Head of School Jonathan Downs ’98’s longstanding record. A shot to dead center, the record-setting dinger came in the first inning of a home game against Pomfret—a first inning in which the first four Mustang batters went deep to set a team record. Justin wasted no time in adding to his record, stepping up to the plate in the bottom of the second inning and blasting his 11th career homer.
“Justin is so good and so humble that he probably doesn't even know that he has broken a record. Let's not tell him,” Mr. Downs said after the record-breaking homer. “He's got more to accomplish for Millbrook and beyond!”
Justin then took aim at the Millbrook single-season hit mark—also held by Mr. Downs. The big moment came in the Mustangs' last game of the season, a home matchup against Citius Prep on May 16. In his final at-bat of the year, the VIth former drilled a long home run, notching his 26th knock of the season to set the new hit record. Fully aware of the gravity of his accomplishment, Justin couldn’t help but tear up as he rounded the bases to be greeted by his equally emotional teammates and coaches.
Justin is one of 20 Mustangs going on to play in the NCAA next school year. The community is sad to see him go but eager to see what he does at the next level as he chases his MLB dream. Keep an eye on him as he competes in the ACC with the Hokies this fall!
