We are a team that grows into the game. It's been true all season with opponents stealing an easy and early lead.
However, after settling into the groove, our squad plays mean defense regularly led by the fearless and relentless effort of center back Sherry Yang. Today was no different. Hanna Abecassis stepped up to play keeper as Victoria Vazquez recovers from a head injury. So many players had one of their strongest showings of the season today. Rachel Nayman's touch was effortless. Minh Anh Hoang played with grit. Returning to the field, Ceci Fougere broke through Canterbury's back line as striker. Elena Shan became a link between the back line and the forwards seemingly covering most of the pitch. Kathrine found a new home in the midfield. Sloane Landis put her body on the line and added critical speed to the game. Tate Bieger played every minute of the game and only got better and faster. Annabelle Pratt returned to anchor the squad on defense. Emelia Banta, Tessa Somer, and Liv Dillard all found a connection along the left flank. And yet, it pays to decide to play, because you might find yourself with the ball at your feet and a chance to knock it in the back of the net. That was the story today for Annabelle Siklos as she not only defended to keep Canterbury scoreless in the second half, but also put her team on the board with a tidy volley from just right of the penalty mark. A solid effort all around.
