$0The tennis Mustangs opened their season today in dramatic fashion indoors at the Mills center against a Suffield team that has dominated our boys for years. This year however would be different. The doubles teams took the courts first with John and Matt at #1 fighting hard but going down to a quick 8-1 defeat. Cooper and Brooks at #2 and Conor and Michael at #3 pulled out important wins; 8-2 and 8-5. In singles play, John at #1 played terrific tennis in a losing effort to an exceptionally good opponent from Germany; 6-4, 6-2. Cooper at #2 lost much of his timing and rhythm (hard for a drummer to do) while losing his match 6-1, 6-1. In his varsity debut, Matt at #3 had the match of the day with a terrific come from behind 3rd set tie break win 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(7-5) - amazing effort! Captain Brooks at #4 endured huge momentum shifts to overcome his opponent in 3 sets 6-7, 6-3, 6-0. Cole at #5 played well when it counted most winning 6-4, 7-5 and Michael at #6 showed guts and perseverance in a 9-7 pro set win. Final Millbrook -5 Suffield -2$0
