New IV former Selima Harmon is the keeper for the Black and White
Ruffled Lemur at the Trevor Zoo. She was awarded Zooie of the Week
because of her extreme dedication to keeping the lemur exhibit clean.
Three
times in the past week she thoroughly, not just perfunctorily, cleaned
her exhibit taking out all of the saw dust, scrubbing the floor,
letting it dry and then spreading new sawdust. This task is required
only once a week, but Selimah wanted to go the extra step to ensure a
comfortable environment for the animals in her charge. She travels down
to the zoo during her free periods to sit and play with the lemurs, a
fantastic enriching stimulation for them.
Beyond the excellent
care she provides for the lemurs, Selimah is also cheerful and friendly
with zoo staff and other zoo volunteers. When another keeper can't
fulfill his or her responsibility at the zoo, she readily and willingly
helps out, completing their tasks on top of her own. If she finishes
early, she is the first one to ask how she can help in another area.
Congratulations, Selimah, on being this week's Zooie of the Week!
