Millbrook Bats Hot, Capped by Abbate Grand Slam

L Peterson
Millbrook welcomed Hamden Hall on a beautiful Monday afternoon.

The Mustangs came out ready to go, getting three quick outs from the Hamden Hall offense before plating two runs of their own in the bottom of the first (with Jaicee Downs ‘26 and Joiee Downs ‘29 scoring).

In the bottom of the second inning, Hamden Hall was able to plate one run, but the highlight of the inning was 3 quick strikeouts from Meghan Abbate ‘29 on the mound. A heads-up Hamden Hall double play on a line drive held the Mustangs scoreless in the bottom of the second inning.

The top of the 3rd inning was a beautiful 1-2-3, followed by a full-team Millbrook effort 7-run bottom of the third inning.

The Mustang defense carried the momentum into the top of the 4th inning, with back-to-back 1-2-3 innings. The offensive power continued for the Mustangs. They had already scored 4 runs in the inning when Abbate came to the plate with the bases loaded—setting the stage for a grand slam to end the game.

It was a true team win, with every Milbrook player having at least one RBI or run scored.

Abbate racked up another 8 K from the circle.

Offensive highlights:
  • Jaicee Downs ‘26: 4-4, with 3 RBIs and 3 runs
  • Meghan Abbate ‘29: 3-4, with 4 RBI (on the grand slam!) and 3 runs
  • Joiee Downs ‘29: 2-4, with 2 RBIs and 2 runs and great heads-up base running
  • Sherry Yang ‘29: 2-2 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs
  • Samyiah Howell ‘29: 2 runs
  • Emma Lattrell ‘29 and Kate Rubinstein ‘26 both had great eyes, working 2 walks each
  • Ellie Myers ‘29 reached base 3 times and scored 2 runs

We look forward to hosting Marianapolis this upcoming Saturday.
