Millbrook Boys Cross Country Wins Canterbury Invitational

Coach Meltzer
The Millbrook boys' cross-country team showed an impressive outing in the first race of the season at this year's Canterbury Invitational, with both Kazuki Unayama ('18) winning the Division II race individually and the boys team winning overall! The team pushed hard despite hot temperatures and blazing sun on the course. The Millbrook boys had arrived at Canterbury excited for their first test after the initial weeks of practice, and were ready to push themselves. Every runner put in a team effort, including those who came as backups and to cheer the runners on; the collective team effort certainly played a major role in the win! The team was led by co-captain Kazuki, who paced himself well and showed incredible determination during the race. After battling with a runner from Chase for the majority of the race, Kazuki gave a strong final kick for a definitive win, with a time of 17:23. Mateo Winogrand ('19) came in 13th place, and Sam Iacavazzi ('18) finished 26th. Co-captain Chris Wilkins ('18) came in solidly, coming in 33rd place, and finishing shortly ahead of David Nesterov-Rappoport ('18), who finished in 38th place. Jayden Reeves ('19) and co-captain Henry Schulz ('18) ran much of the race together, often passing opponents as a team, and finishing in 54th and 57th places, respectively. Thanks to Charlie Weisberg ('21) for dressing to race and warming up with the team as an alternate. Thanks as well to Ian Crary ('20) and Simon Thue ('21) for coming to cheer on teammates and offer strategic encouragement during the race. Congratulations to Kerry Carr for her impressive 9th place finish in the girls' race! Come watch this Wednesday's race at home against Gunnery.
