The Results Are In, Millbrook's Winter Weekend Champion Has Been Crowned

Few events evoke more passion, solidarity, pride, and school spirit the way that Winter Weekend does each year at Millbrook.
Some dorms begin forming their Winter Weekend strategies as early as the fall semester. Winter Weekend, in its simplest form, is about school spirit.

Prum and Guest House team up as do Annex and Harris to compete with Case, Clark, Abbott, and Burton in novelty games and contests throughout the weekend. Each dorm wears its colors to show solidarity.

The first event is the Pep Rally where dorms march into the Mills Athletic Center wearing their respective colors and reciting their dorm chant. They then convene in Wray Gymnasium where they take turns performing their choreographed rallies. This year, the Pep Rally finalists were Burton in third place, Case in second place, and Clark in first place.

Day one of Winter Weekend culminates with its oldest tradition, College Bowl. The College Bowl is a game show style trivia game loaded with questions about Millbrook history, sports, pop culture, and sundry other tests of one's knowledge and wisdom. And who better to serve as its host than English department chair, mr. Walker Zeiser who has hosted the College Bowl for the better part of the 21st century.

This year's College Bowl finalists are: in third place, Clark; in second place, Prum/Guest House; and the champions, by unanimous decision, Case.

From pie eating contests to the cornhole tournament to broomball to dorm clean-up, there are a plethora of events throughout Winter Weekend where dorms earn points. Equally importantly are the points earned for general school spirit which are accrued via attendance and support not only of one's own dorm, but of competitors' dorms as well. One such event is the banner contest where dorms are charged with the task of designing and creating a banner to be posted and displayed prominently in the hockey rink.

The results for the banner contest are: Harris/Annex in third place; Abbott in second; and Clark in first.

Winter Weekend culminates with dorm videos and airbands on the final day of competition in the Chelsea Morrison Theater. The entire competition revolves on one of Millbrook's core values and each year they change on a rotating basis. This year's theme is curiosity. All of the videos displayed wonderful spirit and effort. In third place for the dorm video contest was Abbott; in second, Harris/Annex; and the top video was produced by Case.

Airband is one of the most highly anticipated events of Winter Weekend and the glory of winning is the most coveted feat. It is a competition where each dorm chooses a song, choreographs a dance to that song, and lip-syncs the words for the audience. This year's competition was steep, but the finalists were: in third place, Abbott; finishing second, Harris/Annex; and the top airband performance was, for the second consecutive year, that of Prum/Guest House.

In the end, there can only be one champion. Only one dorm can ultimately claim the crown of Winter Weekend champion. The 2013 Winter Weekend finalists are: in third place, Clark; second place, Harris/Annex; and, reclaiming the title for the first time since 2009, the 2013 Winter Weekend champion is Case.
