CES - Lucy '23

Digital Screen Use and Attention Span in the Millbrook Community (ISR)

Lucy’s CES sought to identify the connection between time spent with digital screens and the ability to concentrate on other tasks. She presented her findings on the impact of digital screen use on sleep patterns, reading comprehension, and the neuroscience behind the habitual rewards-seeking behavior connected to unchecked excessive screen use. Lucy gathered data on sleep and screen time from Millbrook students and faculty for her CES, which began as an Independent Science Research project. After data analysis, Lucy concluded that screen time does indeed negatively impact concentration and focus among faculty and students at Millbrook. She further suggested a modified study hall schedule and increased awareness of the impact of digital screens on health.
