Scoring in 4 Different Innings Gets Millbrook the Win v King

L Peterson
Millbrook traveled to King for a Tuesday off-day game and were excited for the match-up. Millbrook and King have played each other multiple times in playoffs the last few years, and the two teams were WNEPSGSBA Class C co-champions last year. Today, the Millbrook bats started early and never looked back, as the Mustangs won the game 16-5.

The Mustang bats got things started in the 1st inning, plating 6 runs. Jess Trocchio ‘24 got things started and scored off a double from Jaicee Downs ‘26. Abby Hylan ‘25 then had an RBI single, scoring Haley Malmgren ‘25 (reached on walk) and Downs. Hylan scored on a passed ball before Trocchio had her 2nd hit of the inning, scoring Ingrid Schmitt ‘25 and Stella Renzi ‘25 (both reached on walks). King responded with two of their own runs in the bottom of the first.

Millrook added one more run to their lead in the 2nd inning before having a great 1-2-3 defensive inning. Millbrook scored their run after Hylan hit a 2-out double and then scored on walks.

In the third inning, the Mustangs added 4 more runs to the board. Trocchio got things started with a double before Malmgren hit an RBI single to score Trocchio. Downs and Hylan added hits of their own before Maddie O’Brien ‘25 had a nice hit to score Malmgren and Downs. Schmitt kept the scoring going with a 2-RBI double, scoring Hylan and O’Brien.

In the bottom of the third, King got the lead runner on base on an awkward bounce before Millbrook responded with another 1-2-3 outs.

In the fourth inning, the Mustangs added another 5 runs. Trocchio singled her way on base, followed by a double from Downs. Hailey Mesard ‘25 then laid down a great sacrifice bunt to score Trocchio. Hylan then put the ball in play for Downs to score on good baserunning. Schmitt followed up with an RBI single to score Mesard before Renzi had an RBI double to score O’Brien.

Similar to the last few innings, the bottom of the 4th was another 1-2-3 inning - with Malmgren notching 2 strikeouts.

King managed to plate two runs in the bottom of the 5th, but the Mustangs hung tough to shut down the King rally, and Malmgren ended the game with a full-count strikeout.
