Millbrook Bats Come Alive in Exciting Win v GFA

L Peterson
The Mustangs hosted GFA for our Family Weekend game. Our games with GFA have historically been competitive, and Millbrook was excited and ready for the challenge.

The Mustangs spotted GFA a 1-run lead in the first inning, and then good pitching and defense blanked GFA in the second inning.

In the third inning, GFA built on their lead to jump ahead 5-0, but Millbrook was ready to respond in the bottom of the third with some excitement. Maddie O’Brien ‘25 and Stella Renzi ‘26 worked walks to get on base, followed by a single by Jess Trocchio ‘24 to load the bases. Jaicee Downs ‘26 then ripped a ball to the outfield fence and had a beautiful, inside the park grand slam. Heading into the 4th inning, the score was 5-4.

The Mustangs carried the momentum into the 4th inning - shutting down GFA in the top of the inning with quick defensive out and then plating 7 runs in the bottom of the 4th. Downs had a hard hit single to score Renzi and Trocchio who got on ahead of her. Haley Malmgren ‘25 then singled Kelly Naula ‘24 in, followed by a hard hit by Hailey Mesard ‘25 that scored Downs. Ingrid Schmitt and Maddie O’Brien then worked walks to get on base (with O’Brien’s walk scoring Malmgren), followed by Renzi batting in Mesard and Schmitt. Heading into the 5th inning, the score was 5-11 with Millbrook ahead.

GFA chipped back at the Millbrook lead, scoring one run in the 5th and another 2 in the 6th inning, but Millbrook buckled down and shut things down in the 7th inning. After GFA managed to get two batters on and the tying run was up to bat, Millbrook stayed mentally tough, with Malmgren striking out the next two batters and Downs catching the final out at shortstop.

Overall, an exciting win for the Mustangs.

Stat Highlights:
Trocchio: 4 hits
Downs: 6 RBIs, 3 hits
Mesard: 3 hits

A HUGE shout out to Larry, Mark, and the entire maintenance crew for working hard to get our field playable after the overnight rain - we appreciate it!! And thanks to all the parents who were there in support!
