Millbrook Stays Strong to get the W v Canterbury

L Peterson
The Millbrook Mustangs hosted the Canterbury Saints for a scrimmage on a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs played good defense throughout the game behind Haley Malmgren ‘25 on the mound, never facing more than 5 batters in an inning (with four 1-2-3 innings). Malmgren earned her first career pitching win for the Mustangs, notching 7 strikeouts on the day.

The Saints etched out a run in the first inning, and the Mustangs responded in the bottom of the second to tie the game 1-1. Hailey Mesard ‘25 started off the inning with a great hit and advanced off a hit from Ingrid Schmitt ‘26. Mesard then scored off a great bunt from Kelly Naula ‘24. The score would remain 1-1 through the middle of the 6th inning. In the bottom of the 6th, Stella Renzi ‘26 got things started and was followed by Naula again finding her way on base - setting the stage for a 2-RBI double from Jaicee Downs ‘26.

Millbrook went into the top of the 7th inning with a 3-1 lead. Despite allowing two runners aboard, the Mustangs were able to shut down the attempted Saints comeback.

We look forward to our official season opener this Wednesday, when we will welcome Suffield.
Props to the entire team for their mental toughness today. And props to our managers - Charlie, Nashle, and Liz - for doing a great job keeping the scorebook and managing the scoreboard.
