Winter Musical: The Addams Family Thrills and Chills

The coffin is closed on Millbrook’s winter musical, The Addams Family, and audiences adored the delightfully dark comedy studded with killer musical numbers. The coming-of-age story came alive thanks to the stars of Millbrook theater, and the show delivered a fresh take on one of the most adapted fictional families of all time.

Addams Family ancestors told their uniquely grim backstories through makeup, movement, and costumes to open the show in the family graveyard. The first act is a crescendo of action culminating in “Full Disclosure,” a deadly game of truth or dare and a high-tempo musical highlight of the show.

As Wednesday Addams, Charlotte Withers-Clarke ’27 trades her torture devices for butterflies and picnic lunches when she falls in love with the “normal” Lucas Beineke played by Blake Frost ’26. The fragile dynamics of marriage are explored when truth and secrets converge on the usually rock-solid power couple, Gomez (Oliver Jellinek ’24) and Morticia (Ivy Braly ’24) Addams. The flame reignites when the traditional midwestern Beinekes are forced to look within during their strange and unnerving stay at the Addams family mansion.

With a hauntingly realistic set design, expert casting, a crack production crew, and live band, The Addams Family brought the house down night after night.
