New Englands Division III Championships: a bittersweet end to a great season

Coach Havard
Juliet Drury takes fifth overall in the field of 144 finishers; qualifies for the All-Star race!
This year's New England Division III championships were held at Highland Park in Attleboro, MA, a former golf course that has been converted into a cross country racing facility. The lack of variety on the course did not play well to Millbrook runners' experience with steep hills and more technical terrain, but it was fast, offered great spectating, and the running weather could not have been better! Millbrook drew the 20th box, at the far left of the starting line, but Juliet Drury got out fast and was with the front pack through the first mile. Selina Hung, Jaicee Downs, and Sarah Eagen also had fast first miles and presented a strong pack to the runners who nipped at their heels. In the second mile, the lead runners spread out a bit, leaving Juliet running alone in the 5th place spot which she held strong until the finish, in 20:22. Selina (24:31), Jaicee (24:37), and Sarah (24:49) finished in 70th, 76th, and 85th respectively, with Sarah having her strongest race of the season - a great way to finish her four-year career! Another tight pack of Millbrook runners was led by Angelina Huang, followed by Aiden Corbin and Ingrid Schmitt, with Aiden finding another gear in the final 200 meters. Unfortunately, the Pomfret girls team also packed effectively - with their top three finishing between Juliet and Selina, and another three between Sarah and Angelina, meaning that Pomfret bested Millbrook 26-30 in their race for a point in Millbrook-Pomfret Day. Congratulations to them, and great competition between these two teams all season! In the JV girls race, Linna Du, Hailey Mesard, Tracy Yin, and Nga Ho all competed; congratulations to Linna who ran her PR and earned a 20th place ribbon!  One more week of training for Juliet, and Jack Evans, who PR-ed in taking 13th place in the boys varsity race. They will compete next Saturday at the New England All-Star race at St. Mark's School.
Thank you so much to Mrs. Drury, Mr. Corbin, the Eagens and the Evanses who came to the race, and to all our fans who supported us through this terrific season!
