Mustangs Dominate Saints But ...

Gordie MacKenzie
On a relatively warm, sunny afternoon, the Lady Mustangs travelled to New Milford, CT to take on longtime rival Canterbury. From the opening kickoff, Millbrook set the tempo and dominated the play in the middle 3rd. At the 35:22 mark, Estee O'Brien opened the scoring with a side-volley in the upper right corner. Five minutes later, Merritt Tessier would double the score with a well placed shot over the Saints keeper's head in the far corner. The second half would see similar play by Millbrook but Canterbury's defense held strong. Mid-way through the half, Jill Smith found herself just inside the 18 and netted her first goal of her career. Having a 3-0 lead and only 14 minutes left in the game, Millbrook thought the game was in hand - Canterbury thought otherwise. In a span of 5 minutes, Canterbury cut Millbrook's lead to one. Millbrook was able to possess and run out the clock for the remaining time to preserve the win. Next up, Frederick Gunn.
