A Home Opener Win

Lewis Feuer
Under the northerly edge of tropical storm Ophélia, Millbrook's development soccer squad won their first match against Kent.
The weather threatened to postpone this year's home opener, but our team welcomed the classic north east soccer climate and made the best of their first game of the season. Joey Tanski had a brace netting the first goal of the season off a well placed penalty kick and the third goal in the game by taking advantage of a second half breakdown in Kent's defensive line. With an assist by Adam Fraser, Jake Newman found the back of the net on a well-timed run from the right wing. Jake's speed along the right side was a highlight of the afternoon. Keeping their footing on the soggy turf, our defense was led by centerbacks Hutch Gellert (also this year's team captain) and Marcos Wiscovitch Frontera. Speed seems a hallmark of this team as leftback Oram Wood had no trouble making overlapping runs in search of his own goal scoring opportunity, and Beckett Kilzer and Henry Nero were perpetual threats from striker and center attacking midfield respectively. Support for the team effort was in no short supply, as substitutes Michael Philipp, Ricky Perkins, Charles Perreten, Michael Stein, and Alan Li all put in successful shifts and had key touches in a well-played effort.
