Clutch playing leads to first win

Coach Powers
The girls showed their heart and effort today at home against a solid Westminster squad.  First out were the evens which ended being a split.  #8 Caroline Hopkins cruised through her match in straight games.  Despite some really close close games, #4 Paras Musallam and #6 Anna Wilson lost in straight games.  Caroline Frase dropped her first game at #2, but then found her accuracy, depth and power to pull away winnin the next three games.  As the odds filtered onto the courts, we were down 1-2.  #3 Emma Muccia lost a tough 10-12 first game, but also put it all together nicely wining the last three games.  2-2.  #5 Ella Green also dropped her first game 10-12 and, despite a great effort, eventually the match.  2-3.  With both teams watching, Natalie Whitman at #7 finished a dominant performance at #7, only dropping 15 points en route to a straight game win.  3-3.  So, as it often does, it all came down to the last match at #1.  Josie Duggan dropped her first game, but proceeded to turn things around playing some excellent squash.  She used her straight drop effectively, as a good change-up for her great depth.  She pulled out game 2, 11-8; then game 3, 12-10; and then cruised in the last game to secure the win for herself and for the team, 11-5.  It was a nice way to end the first part of our season, and we will seek to continue to improve when we return from break.

Additionally, a thanks to some Westminster girls who played twice to allow Olivia Finnerty and Tracy He to get exhibition matches in.  Both have been working hard in practice and it showed.

Have a great exam week and break!
