Lady Mustangs Gallop Past Gunnery

Gordie MacKenzie
Millbrook opened Class C league play today with a resounding 9-1 win over The Gunnery from Washington, CT.. After conceding a combine 10 goals in the last 2 matches, the Lady Mustangs looked to regain their form and skill set they knew they had inside them. Unfortunately for Gunnery, they were going to be on the receiving end of their wrath. It only took a minute for Millbrook to find the back of the net and then did so 6 more times in a span of 20 minutes. To Gunnery's credit, their girls never gave up and continued to move the ball to get on the scoreboard. At 17:46, Gunnery's efforts paid off as Ali Noeding sent a long ball into the ball which caught Millbrook's keeper off guard and fell into the back of the net; 3 minutes later Adelaide Armah '19 notched her first goal of the year to bring the lead back to 7. Entering the second half, Millbrook looked to work on their possession game and added one more before the end of the game. While Millbrook had multiple scorers contributing today - Jalia Musah '21 (4G), Suwaibatu Mohammed '19 (2G, 1A), there were also a couple of first for the season - Callie Kenney '22 and Helen Apollon '19 each had a goal apiece, and Bailey Tymeson '20, Amber Hatfield '21 and Musah were credited with an assit each- the rest of the squad saw some quality minutes to build for the future.  Beside playing on the backline for the first half, Brysha Schmidt '22 also made 2 saves in her debute in goal.  Next up, Miss Halls on Saturday.
