Mustangs Fall to Wildcats

Gordie MacKenzie
On a beautiful, fall afternoon, the Lady Mustangs made the trip to Rye, NY to take on the Wildcats of Rye. For whatever reason, this was a classic game of "Not getting off the bus"! Being Rye's Parents Weekend, it was clear from the start Rye came to play.  With Rye's field condition being very flat turf, the speed and bounce of the ball certainly threw Millbrook off their game. Rye openned the scoring in the first 3 minutes when a long ball into our box took an uncharacteristic high bounce over Elise Almgren's head and carried into the back of the net. Although Millbrook would generated a couple of opportunities, getting control of play was very difficult. The half would end 1-0 Rye.

Millbrook came out in the 2nd half with a little more in their step but Rye would again find the back of the net just 2 mintues in. It would take another 7 minutes before Millbrook would get on the score board when Lizzy Carter '18 served a ball over Rye's backline where Suwaibatu Mohammed '19 collected the pass and fired it over Rye's keeper's head. Rye would answer a couple of minutes later, and put the game out of reach.

The coaches and players would like to thank Mrs. Barringer for providing the team with a pizza tailgate - we only wish it was under different circumstances.

Time to regroup. League play continues on Wednesday as the Lady Mustangs hit the road to take on Ethel Walker.
