Millbrook girls run improved times but lose to Berkshire on new course

Coach Havard
Berkshire School is inaugurating a new course this season, and Millbrook v Berkshire girls was the first race to be run on it.  Almost entirely on grass fields and wooded trails, the course is challenging, with a big hill at about 1.5 miles, and a fast final mile.  Haines Corrigan and Morgan Heilshom from Berkshire went out strong and held their lead throughout the race. Milbrook's #1 Kerry Carr battled with Aimi Sekiguch of Berkshire for third. It was back and forth, but Carr made her final move in the lower field, opening up a commanding lead on the long straightaway to the finish in 23:27.  WIth Lillie Marcos sidelined today, Anna Wilson and Ella Horn were an effective pack in 5th and 6th place, with Raphaella Pope finishing 7th about 25 seconds behind them. All three girls bested their previous times this season by a minute or more.  Finishing fifth for Millbrook was Clare Carty in 12th place. Overall, it was 33 Millbrook, 24 Berkshire. (a reminder that cross country is that weird sport where the lower score wins). Congratulations to Claire Kissane for compleing her first race of the season, and new team member Sam Besca for finishing her first race ever!
