Mustangs Hold off Kent, 8-6

The Millbrook Varsity softball team beat Kent, 8-6, on a blustery Wednesday afternoon. The Mustangs jumped out to an 8-0 lead midway through four innings with some impressive offense before letting Kent back in the game. Kent cut the Millbrook lead to two runs after the fifth, but the Mustangs shut the door on the comeback by holding Kent scoreless in the sixth and seventh, where Millbrook hurler Riley Croghan '18 ended the game with a called strike three. Croghan had another monster day at the plate, launching a three-run shot over the left-field fence and adding a triple and single for good measure. Emma Gotthelf '19 had a two-RBI single as well, and Jessie Foote '18, Helene Apollon '19, and Kelly Phan '18 also added RBI. Croghan notched five strikeouts in the complete-game victory, and Foote did an excellent job behind the plate, including gunning out a Kent runner attempting a stolen base.  Millbrook will travel to St. Luke's on Saturday.
