Mustangs Fall to Westover, 8-5

The Millbrook Varsity Softball team lost to Westover, 8-5, on a sunny but cold Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs were shorthanded with just nine players, and started the game sluggishly after the long bus ride and a different lineup. Westover scored seven of their runs in the first three innings before Millbrook woke up a bit and started mounting a comeback. The Mustangs pulled to within three with two runners on in the seventh, but couldn't quite finish the comeback. Riley Croghan '18 got on base in three out of four at-bats with two singles and an RBI. Maya Holmes '17 and Devyn Farrell '20 added RBI as well. Emma Gotthelf '19 and Helene Apollon '19 helped out defensively with pretty snags at third and first of two lasered line drives off the Westover bats. Croghan struck out 11 while walking three. It will be a quick turnaround for the Mustangs, as Millbrook's home opener is against Canterbury on Monday.
