Mustangs Fall to Suffield 12-6 in Opener

The Millbrook Varsity Softball team opened its 2017 season with a 12-6 loss to a talented Suffield squad. After a long stretch of practices inside, it was nice for the Mustangs to get a chance to play outside on a (very wet) field. Riley Croghan ’18 turned in an impressive performance at the plate and on the mound. Croghan went 4-for-4 with a pair of triples and two singles, one RBI, and three runs scored. On the mound, Croghan struck out nine while walking just one. Aria Bowden ’18 also had a great game, knocking in a run in three of her four plate appearances and singling in the top of the seventh. She also was a force in center field, hustling all around the outfield to get the ball in quickly. Emma Gotthelf ’19 and Devyn Farrell ’20 each scored once, as did Sam Besca ’18, who was hit by a pitch. Farrell and Helene Apollon ’19 each had singles, and Gotthelf had a beautiful sacrifice bunt in the first. All in all, it was a solid first outing for the Mustangs, who will travel to Westover on Saturday.
