The Millbrook girls trekked up to Saxtons River to face Vermont Academy on Saturday night. Earlier this season, Millbrook beat the gritty VA squad, 2-1, at the Southfield tournament. Despite their earlier success, Millbrook showed up ready to compete. Vermont took an early lead off a quick shot from the slot in the first period. Millbrook was able to tie it up before ending the period. Vermont went up 2-1 on a bad bounce in the second, but Millbrook was undeterred, tying it up again before the end of the period. Both goals were scored by Taylor Ham who was set up well by her linemates, Bailey Tymeson and Emma Gotthelf. Millbrook put the game away in the third with goals from Ham and Ellie Muckstadt. The team played a full three periods and showed real character continuing to fight back against VA’s early leads. The coaches were particularly proud to see the power play control the puck in the offensive zone and produce a number of scoring opportunities. They were also very proud to see the girls stay out of the penalty box.
