Spotlight on Service for Social Justice: Alumnus Gregg Osofsky '91 Addresses Social Justice with Millbrook Students

Gregg Osofsky ’91 addressed students in the chapel yesterday about social justice and how his life experiences, including that at Millbrook School, contributed to his understanding of what social justice means today.

“This place has been completely transformed,” Osofsky said at the beginning of his speech about the growth that Millbrook has experienced since his graduation in 1991. “I speak about the transformation that has occurred here because social justice is really about transformation,” said Gregg.  He went on to share that he learned through his own service work that transformation cannot occur without compassion. “Social justice comes from compassion,” says Gregg, who credits his time at Millbrook for helping him develop that part of himself.

Gregg encouraged our current students to use their time at Millbrook not only to discover and hone their academic, athletic, and artistic passions, but to also nurture their sense of compassion and to search for the larger social issues that they feel connected to. “It is important that we engage for change,” said Gregg.

Today, Gregg works at The Watershed Center, a 73-acre farm and retreat in Millerton, NY that hosts seminars and workshops. There Gregg consults with those interested in aligning their lives with a sense of purpose to foster change.
