Steele-Norton: Player of the Year

Congratulations to Louise Steele-Norton '11, a sophomore at Utica College, who was named Empire 8 North Atlantic Region Conference Player of the Year for her outstanding play on the Pioneer's field hockey team.
Utica proudly announced that five of their field hockey players had been named all-conference in the Empire 8, more than any other school. This was the 2nd year Louise had been named to first team, but her accomplishments only begin there...

Louise was also named a 2012 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III First-Team All-American. Her record-breaking season included setting a new Empire 8 record for goals in a season (27) and goals per game (1.35) and tied the single-season conference record with seven game-winning goals. Utica published the following statistics on their website:

Steele-Norton is making her second straight appearance on the first team after helping the Pioneers to their first-ever conference title and second NCAA bid in program history.  She currently has 26 goals and two assists.  She leads the conference with 54 points and recently broke the E8 single season goal scoring record.  She has helped guide the Pioneers to a 3.2 goals per game average and has tallied at least one point in 17 of 19 games played this season.  She also has a league-best seven game-winners this season.

By the end of the 2012 field hockey season, Louise had scored 87 career points, which ranks fourth in all-time program history at Utica.  She needs only two more points next year to move into third and just 23 points to become the highest scorer in Utica's history. Stay tuned for more news from Utica about the athletic prowess of Louise Steele-Norton...
