Trevor Zoo Earns AZA Accreditation, Again

Jonathan Lopez
The Trevor Zoo at Millbrook School received continued accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). The AZA visiting committee noted that the Trevor Zoo "is exceptional in its commitment to conservation of natural resources. They promote this philosophy and are an outstanding example of conservation in action."
The United States Department of Agriculture has licensed over 2,400 animal exhibitors; fewer than 10% of those exhibits are accredited by the AZA. Trevor Zoo has once again met the rigorous, professional standards for animal welfare, veterinary care, behavioral enrichment, nutrition, and staff training that ensures their AZA accreditation through 2016.

The AZA visiting committee considers, among other factors, animal care, education programs, conservation practices, risk management, and organizational structure prior to making a decision. The Trevor Zoo endured a scrutinizing, fastidious inspection and passed. In fact, Mr. and Mrs. Meigs, Dr. T and the rest of the Trevor Zoo staff were praised for their involvement in maintaining their high standards of excellence. According to the visiting committee, "The staff is highly motivated and enthusiastic about the institution and the roles they had in its success."
