Our Zoo's In the News

Millbrook's Trevor Zoo is widely recognized as an outstanding and unique organization - it is one of only 216 zoos in the U.S. accredited by the Associations of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), it houses 80 different species, including 7 endangered species, and it is the only zoo in the country located at a high school.
The Trevor Zoo has been the subject of many articles and commentary over the years, including recent attention both in print and on the radio. The COMPASS, a supplement to the Lakeville Journal and Millerton News, recently published a feature article on regional day trips and suggested the Trevor Zoo as a "delightful facility" where all visitors will find a favorite animal to admire. The writer also suggested bringing along a picnic lunch - and many visitors did just that this summer, relaxing on the porch of the education center or sitting in our newly enclosed picnic area adjacent to the otter pool. You can read the August 20th article in its entirety on the Compass' website: click here.

The Trevor Zoo was also a feature topic recently on the Hudson Valley Talk Radio show "Family Pet Time with Dr. Joe". Our own Dr. T. (Alan Tousignant, associate director of the zoo, and member of the zoo team since 1984) was a guest on the talk show hosted by local veterinarian Dr. Joe Impellizari. Dr. T. provided background on the zoo, including its history and growth, and also discussed the unique daily interaction between Millbrook's 40+ student volunteers and the zoo animals. Follow this link to listen to the broadcast online - Dr. T. is welcomed after the first 3-minute segment on animal health.
