Millbrook XC claims invitational at Kingswood-Oxford!
The Millbrook mustangs outpaced the Wyverns and all other manner of creature to win the four-school invitational hosted by Kingswood-Oxford on Wednesday
The long ride to West Hartford was mitigated by a comfortable coach bus and an early arrival with plenty of time to warm up and lose our bus legs. Millbrook girls were focused from the start in preparing. The course, around a beautiful public park at the West Hartford resevoir, was very flat by Millbrook standards, but included a long muddy downhill repeated during the first mile and at the finish. Kerry Carr, Anna WIlson, and Ella Horn capitalized by going out in a fast pack, and settling in for a battle just behind the second Kingswood runner. Carr and Wilson maintained the pace and pushed each other the entire race, while Horn fell only slightly back., finishing in 6th A little over a minute behind the front pack, Raphaella Pope ran a very strong race and finished 9th, with CIndy He behind her in 11th. Both beat their target times today. Dorothy Walker finished 14th in by far her best race of the season! Sam Besca finished 27th in an improved time as well. Congrats to Abby Fernald from Kingswood, who won the race in a blistering 21:40, over a minute ahead of the rest of the field. And congrats to our Mustangs, who pulled together for a terrific race. We race at Berkshire on Saturday at 3 p.m. Come cheer us on!
